Once Upon a Time
Mankind's story begins with a wedding and it will end with a wedding as well.
The first wedding was a "garden wedding" when the Father presented his son, Adam, with his suitable mate. The final wedding is called the "Marriage of the Lamb" when, once again, the Father will present his Son, Jesus, a Bride for eternity. Between these two weddings, the Scriptures speak of other love stories and marriages made in heaven! In fact, the whole of the Word of God is wrapped around a romantic bridal theme. The Old Testament is replete with thrilling stories of passion and romance in which the timeless story of man's longing for a bride is told and re-told through the lives of biblical characters such as Adam and Eve, Isaac and Rebecca, Boaz and Ruth, Esther and the King, Hosea and Gomer, and Solomon and the Shulmite. Each of these tales lends a unique perspective to the larger story of God's love for His own Bride.

What is "Romantic Theology?"
Romantic Theology, sometimes called the “Bridal Paradigm or the "Bridal Revelation,” is a term used to describe the relationship the Bride of Christ has with Jesus, her Bridegroom. The theological concept of being married to God is not a new one. It is seen all throughout the Bible, and has been preached from the beginning of church history. At its core, Romantic Theology is simply the Gospel because it tells the glorious story of God's love for mankind.  Yet, according to the Bridal paradigm, the love that prompts God to seek and save us is not rooted in compassion - it is rooted in passion! As Psalms 18:9 declares,  "he delivered me, because he delighted in me.” That means that our salvation was not a result of God's pity. It was the fruit of his deep desire.

Why is Romantic Theology Emerging At This Time?
An honest evaluation of church history reveals that there have always been those who have embraced the concept of being spiritually married to Christ. However, during the period of the Reformation, Martin Luther sought to marginalize the Bridal Revelation because of how ardently it was cherished by many Catholic believers. Thus the Protestant church never fully defined or developed the theology of the Bride. That, however, is changing today as countless believers are awakening to the restoration of this powerful truth. The reason the Bridal Revelation is emerging at this particular time is because we are living in the days in which the Lord will soon return. And right before He returns, it is said that the bride must “make her self ready”(Rev. 19:7.) The very fact that men and women around the world are beginning to seek to understand their identity as the Bride of Christ is itself a sign that the Bridegroom is "at the door."

Our Vision
The Bridal Revelation can seem perplexing to those who have never considered that they have been called to be the romantic counterpart to Jesus Christ. It can be especially perplexing to men to think of themselves in spiritually "feminine" terms.  Finding our identity as the Bride of Christ, however, has nothing to do with our gender anymore than it has to do with our marital status. In the same way that all believers are called to be the sons of God, so are all believers invited to become the Bride of Jesus.  God beckons us all, male and female, into a relationship that is based on intimacy of heart as lovers of Jesus.  Our call and vision at Shulamite Ministries is to help believers apprehend and press into the full knowledge and experience of their Bridal identity and destiny. Our mandate from heaven is to teach and proclaim what we call the "romantic theology" of God and to help prepare the Bride of Christ for her inevitable date with destiny.
